Real life dollars buy virtual game money?

By: Steven Golden
Will people pay real dollars for in-game virtual money to help their virtual
characters buy in-game goods?
One gamer, who goes by the screen name Haylo, said he spent $10 to $20 real
dollars a month on in-game platinum(all nonexistent, of course) to buy weapons
and other goods in Dark Age of Camelot
(DAOC), but would spend more if he could afford it. (Read More)

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ THURSDAY, AUGUST 18, 2005 08:31:55 PM ]

WASHINGTON: And now here comes Outsourcing, the movie. Don't forget the comma in that previous sentence.

Hollywood will take stab at the practice of outsourcing to India as seen through the eyes of an American writer. Universal Pictures has just bought the film rights to an Esquire article titled "My Outsourced Life" by A.J.Jacobs, a scribe whose off the wall feats include reading the 33-volume, 44-million word Encylopoedia Britannica end-to-end. From The Onion: Chinese Factory Worker Can't Believe the Stupid Stuff He Makes For Americans (link).
Money quote:

"Why the demand for so many kitchen gadgets?" Chen said. "I can understand having a good wok, a rice cooker, a tea kettle, a hot plate, some utensils, good china, a teapot with a strainer, and maybe a thermos. But all these extra things—where do the Americans put them? How many times will you use a taco-shell holder? 'Oh, I really need this silverware-drawer sorter or I will have fits.' Shut up, stupid American."

It's hard to disagree with that...

German Waitress Faces Welfare Cuts After Turning Down Job as Prostitute

Humor Hat tip: The Pirate King:

Source: The Daily Telegraph (link to story)

"A 25-year-old waitress who turned down a job providing "sexual services'' at a brothel in Berlin faces possible cuts to her unemployment benefit under laws introduced this year.

Prostitution was legalised in Germany just over two years ago and brothel owners – who must pay tax and employee health insurance – were granted access to official databases of jobseekers.

The waitress, an unemployed information technology professional, had said that she was willing to work in a bar at night and had worked in a cafe."

The following "test" is meant to be a light-hearted diversion as we prepare to make an important decision on Nov. 2.

This is offshoring that we can live with:

"JeffLindsay.com, through its partnership with Off the Top, Inc., is proud to be the first major US corporation to adopt "executive offshoring." This is bound to be the hottest new trend in business: exporting the jobs of upper management to low-cost developing nations to cut costs AND (in many cases) improve the quality of executive performance."
